General Home Media/Webserver Question
Hello, I'm new here and I've read a lot of posts here but I'm still unclear on a few matters so I thought I'll dive right in.
I have a mac mini running osx as a home media server to stream everything to my computers and popcorn hour and download torrents etc...
I've transfered to VDSL with a static IP recently and I'm thinking of running my site (For a party crew + Forum, nothing big) and mail server at home.
I don't care much about the expectable downtime etc but I have questions about security. I don't want my web server to run on OSX so I'm planning to run a linux distro on VMware with apache/php/mysql and my mail server and route it to the internet via bridged Ethernet so my Home network and Server are separated.
Does anyone have a well funded opinion on what distro I should use? I'm familiar with Suse and Ubuntu but from what I've read on this forum the best way to go would be Debian or free BSD with postfix?
I'm also open to suggestions about the above mentioned configuration.
Thank you for your time and help
