ftp through squid

I want to allow my squid users to allow uploading using ftp.
I have inserted two lines
acl FTP proto FTP
always_direct allow FTP
but still it displaying following message
An FTP protocol error occurred while trying to retrieve the URL: ftp://itvidya.com/

Squid sent the following FTP command:

USER anonymous

and then received this reply

--------- Welcome to Pure-FTPd [TLS] ----------
You are user number 1 of 50 allowed.
Local time is now 06:24. Server port: 21.

Your cache administrator is webmaster.
I heard we can use ftp through squid . Is there any solution .
waiting.
thanks
balaji

Hi

Squid supports http only so for FTP to work you need to have a client that uses the Connect method or that can be forced to use HFTP which is a standard for using FTP over HTTP.
MSIE (Internet Explorer) doesnt know how to deal with it .. but you may try Mozilla Firefox since the feature has been re-added. Netscape browsers works well too.
Note: squid by default allows ftp.

P.S.: You may try to use SmartFTP client since i heard it's capable to work with CONNECT method.
