Ftp-server on home computer

Hi

I have a small problem in setting up the proftpd-server. I can connect from localhost and I can connect from the "inside" IP, shown by the command "ifconfig". I have found out my outside IP and connected it with a hostname from dyndns.org. However, I can't connect to the server, using that hostname or the "outside" IP. I can't ping that outside IP, too. Do I have to setup some portforwarding in the firewall script? I have a usual desktop home computer, connected with the ISP, no home router. Is it possible to have a ftp-server on a home computer with DHCP, at all? Any help will be appreciated.

I would try to disable SELinux (the firewall), which might be whats keeping you from connecting succesfully.

Quick googling suggested the following command, for (temporarily) disabling SELinux (should be run as root):

Code:
# echo 0 > /selinux/enforce
I dont' think there should be any principal problem setting up a server the way you're describing at least.

Good luck

Does your ISP allow incoming trafic on port 21?
You can use a online portscanner to see if the port is open.

Thank you for the answers. According to http://www.t1shopper.com/tools/port-scanner/, port 21 isn't responding. So, probably I will have to contact my ISP and talk with him about opening that port for a small fee.
