FC6 2.6.18.1 telnet server error: Name or service not known: Illegal seek

I've installed the telnet server .RPM that comes with FC6. However, if anybody tries to telnet into the server (including if I try to telnet in as non-root to 127.0.0.1) I get the following:

[rylan@StefanLinux ~]$ telnet 127.0.0.1
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1).
Escape character is '^]'.
getaddrinfo: localhost: Success
Name or service not known: Illegal seek
Connection closed by foreign host.
[rylan@StefanLinux ~]$

I. e. comes up via xinetd, but how can I solver the Name or service unknown error so I can actually telnet into my system? IPtables and SELinux is disabled - I can't find a reference to this "name or service unknown" error for telnet anywhere on the net...

How can I solve this?

Thanks!

Check the /etc/hosts file, make sure there is an entry for your machine name other than localhost. I have two entries as follows:
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
192.168.19.7 kc@compag

where kc@compag is my host name and 192.168.19.7 is the IP of my host
Note that kc@compag should be the HOSTNAME in /etc/sysconfig/network.
