I am looking to configure dns but i have confusion that I have all the system has the local ip only , public ip is configured for this servers on firewall .

I have vonfigured dns for internal (on local IP) . it is working.

but now I am looking DNS for externel worled, I have to change the public IP instead of local IP inside the dsn.

please help , how do I able to access dns external. if it does not require internal, not an issue. I have required external only now.

Thanks,

Hi deepak_message,

As you said that you have configured DNS for internal network but that DNS does not resolve external queries. What you can do is to configure your internal DNS to forward queries to your ISP DNS or your external DNS to resolve external queries. Basically I am suggesting to configure your internal DNS as forwarder.

How do internal DNS to forward queries to your ISP DNS?

I am talking about this: http://www.zytrax.com/books/dns/ch4/

You have to point your DNS server to forward the external queries that are made by the clients to ISP's DNS or your own external DNS. If you configure your DNS server this way it will forward the queries to external DNS server if it does not know the answer.

Another way to achieve this is changing your client configuration that is setting their primary DNS server to be internal one and the secondary DNS server to be external DNS/ISP's DNS.

In most of the cases clients are configured to get IP from DHCP. You can configure your DHCP server to distribute these settings. If you have less clients and you have set them up with static IPs then you have to change this config manually.
