extending volume group vs extending physical volume which is better ?

Hi all,

I'm running a centos 6.3 on vmware esx, so far good, now ran out of disk space, increase hard drive size in vmware and now i have to increase volume group and logical volumes in centos. my doubt is
Quote:

hdd increase from 10GB to 50Gb, is creating another pv and add it to vg then increase lv is better or resizing existing physical volume to 50GB is bettter. If i ncrease PV size to 50Gb , does VG size get increased to 50GB automatically or not ?
which is safe one please help me.

Thanks in advance.

use your web browser to search for LVM. great documentation there. sorry i dont know the answer off of the top of my head, this is were i go to read up on how to manage my LVMs when I muck about with them.

sorry here is a much more detailed LVM for RHEL 6 (CentOS 6.x) that is only about LVM administration:

after you increase pv size you have to increase vg size and then increase size of whatever lv you are trying to increase
