Exclamation Eth0: trying to restart the transmitter, timed out

We are running an ancient version of Red Hat from around 2000 on an HP server. It is great for what we do; very little overhead.

We just moved and when we booted up the server at its new home, we got the error:

eth0 trying to restart the transmitter, transmit timed out

Status: at first it reported status 2050 then 6050 then 7048

all followed by 000@ 0/15 command

We tried rebooting a couple of times with the same result.

The lights on the ethernet card blinked normally or at least it looks that way.

If anyone knows about this problem, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Thank you in advance.

It would help if we knew exactly what you are dealing with.
Can you try to find out what distro+version, also model/make of server and NIC.

Not sure what cmds would be for RH that old, but try these or similar
Code:
uname -a

cat /etc/*release*

dmesg

cat /var/log/dmesg

cat /var/log/boot.log

cat <wherever the ifcfg-eth0 file is)
You get the general idea...

This page may help a bit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Ha...ersion_history
