I can't move more than 4gb at a time. I have read on some forums that i need to format to NTFS. I know how to partition and everything but how do i do that after i have already partitioned FAT32. I don't want to lose my files by reformatting everything.

Well, FAT32 won't support files larger than 4GB, period.
So if you want a larger file, you need to back up your files to another location, and reformat that partition. That's your only option.
Even if you were using Windows, 4GB is max file size for FAT32 filesystem. And if you're only using this on a Linux box, you can format it as EXT4/EXT3 (native Linux), too.
