Error when running up2date

When I try to run up2date I get the following error:
'file /usr/bin/addr2line from install of binutils-2.15.92.0.2-22 conflicts with file from package binutils-2.15.92.0.2-13.0.0.0.2', (7, '/usr/bin/addr2line', 0 L))
Should I just remove binutils package and then proceed with the up2date? Any suggestions would greatly be accepted. Thank you.

Binutils is a relatively important package with a lot of dependencies. Try up2date binutils first. The new version of the rpm will replace /usr/bin/addr2line, so if it complains when you install the new package, it should be safe to then try up2date --force binutils

After that. Proceed with up2date.

Triflin well I tried the first command up2date binutils and I got the same error messages. Then I tried up2date --force binutils and it also complained. Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks for your help.

up2date doesnt allow you to have as forceful a hand with rpms as say... rpm. I forgot this having moved away from RHEL in favor of CentOS. I think the hack around this might be to download the rpm.

up2date -d binutils

Then cram the thing down it's throat.

rpm -uvh --nodeps --force binutils<tab>

hopefully, at that point, your system will wanna up2date without too much more complaining.
