dmesg shows only the following entry on the very end:
ip_tables: (C) 2000-2006 Netfilter Core Team

Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

VMWare Virtual machine

This is a VMWare virtual machine.
O/S: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.8 (Tikanga)
2.6.18-308.11.1.el5 #1 SMP

Thanks.

Odd. What does 'sudo lsmod' return? Does it show the x_tables module already loaded? Is there anything else you should have mentioned about the setup of the machine wrt configuration or installed packages you compiled yourself for instance?
