It really depends on how you want to configure your system in the long run, you could look towards using ldap or a mysql database to store the password and various webmails support those methods. Alternately you could look at a product like plesk, webmin/virtuamin, cpanel, etc. The key thing to remember is make sure your smtp, pop, imap, and webmail can all use the same authentication method.
I've had good luck with postfix, dovecot, mysql, and squirrelmail in the past and using ldap isn't a bad choice especially on a corporate lan where you need to provide a community address book.
