Download able files via Apache

Hey Geeks,

I have setup apache web server on a debian machine. Its working fine, except that I want to share a directory on the LAN which has the files that I want users to download it. currently it does list the files/folders but when i click on them, they are just shown inside the browser. I Want them to be downloaded. Is it possible? any suggestion how to do that

Thanx,

I've done this in the past. I inspected the source code from squirrel mail to learn how to do this, your requirement is much the same as clicking an attachment in a on-line email client such as squirrel mail. Squirrel mail is written in PHP so if you understand PHP you could start there. Source code here

It has been a while since I have done this on Debian but what you need to do is change your MIME types / actions for the files that you are having problems with. Don't quote me on this but I think Debian stores the MIME configs in /etc/apache2/apache2.conf. If you don't find anything there just google Apache MIME type configuration.
