Maybe try to start with a live-cd or the slack install cd, check the filesystem and try to mount the partitions. This way you'll know if the filesystem is corrupted or there are other problems. Are you using ext2?

hi
ur file system damaged so u need to repair ur file system. boot ur machine from a linux bootable cd Enter rescue mod. just run this command in console.

fsck -y /dev/hda1

where /hda1 is ur partition. u should change it. it wil fix ur file system. then reboot normally.
