does redhat 6 installation format multipath storage?

I've server RHEL 5 with multipath storage attached to it the OS is installed on local disks now I need to remove rhel 5 and install rhel 6

I perform fresh installation when i do this it shows me all storage disks

I made my changes on local storage but when i click next it show me format or cancel

So if I click format, will it format all disks include the multipath storage or the local only ?

Have you read the installation guide? If not, I suggest you stop right here and do it.

To install on multipath devices, you should select "special storage" at an early stage: https://access.redhat.com/documentat...vices-x86.html. If you did, it should work.

If you ask it to format the local disks, it will format the local disks, nothing else.

More precisely, it will format the disks that you ask it to format.

i just re-sized the local disk only when i click next it shows format or cancel
i'm afraid to click format and the os formats the san storage as it is production environment
so are you 100% sure it won't format the disks except the ones i made changes to?

Well, what would be the motivation of the Red Hat installer to overwrite random storage devices?
But if you are afraid, just disconnect the LUNs. Either physically or by making them unavailable to that server.

If you want to be 100% sure about things, you should:
  • Read the installation guide
  • CALL RED HAT SUPPORT, since you are PAYING FOR RHEL, right????
The options on the screen are very clear...the installer will only format disks you tell it to. So, as you were told, either choose to NOT format them, or disconnect them if you're really paranoid. And better questions would be
  • WHY are you loading RHEL 6, when the latest is 7.x??? Why do a fresh install of an older OS?
  • If you're so concerned about the data, why are you so paranoid? Don't you have BACKUPS????
