DNS mail rerouting

Can some please confirm this

A client would like to receive mail through my mail server and then have it forwarded to his mail server. How can i do this ? , is the following correct ?
- my mail server is 1.2.3.4
- client mail server is 4.5.6.7

mymailserver MX 10 mail.mine
mymailserver2M MX 15 mail2.mine

mail.mine A 1.2.3.4
??? where does the client mail server ip go ?

if i had an access control list on my server would it mean i also have to have 4.5.6.7 allowed or would it still forward the mails

thanks

That is not a DNS function at all. DNS cannot send mail to one server then on to a second. The MX preference number just tells servers where to send the mail. It doesn't send it to point A then onto B.

You'd have to configure your mail server to forward any mail received for that domain to forward on to his server. That brings up a simple issue - why have the mail go to your server if you just bounce it on? Why not just send the mail directly to his server?

In any case, what you are looking to do doesn't have a DNS solution, it is a mail configuration that you are looking for.

Peace,
JimBass

as your configuration there is displayed that would mean that mails routed @yourdomain.com are routed to the MX record with the highest priority first, if that one is not available then it would be routed to the mail server at the MX record with the 2nd highest priority. So as JimBass said, that's not a DNS functionality.

Unless the mail is coming from a spammer in which case they usually send to your Lowest priority Mail server first to try and get around any spam filtering gateways...
