file that you have to deal with when configuring and getting the dns up:
/etc/resolv.conf ---edit with "nameserver <ip address>"
/etc/named.conf ---main configuration file sample copy from /usr/share/doc/bind-*/sample/etc/named.conf
/var/named/forward-domain.com.zone ---forward lookup file samples in /usr/share/doc/bind-*/sample/var/
/var/named/reverse-domain.com.zone ---reverse lookup file samples in /usr/share/doc/bind-*/sample/var/

if using chroot
it make use of /etc/sysconfig/named --- where there is a line that changes "/" to "/var/named/chroot/" ie. "ROOTDIR="
if "#" that line it gets from "/".
you can get a sample copy from /usr/share/doc/bind-*/sample/etc/named.conf
also you will find named.root.hints
there are some more use full samples in /usr/share/doc/bind-*/sample/var/
to start the service:
chkconfig named on
service named restart
