Difference between two rmp packages ?

Hi,

What is the difference between these two rpm packages ?

kernel-2.6.18-274.7.1.el5.x86_64.rpm

kernel-headers-2.6.18-274.7.1.el5.x86_64.rpm

What does headers means ?

Regards,
Aparna.

From a programming point of view, headers are those files, separated by the main program, that contain variable declarations, various definitions and eventually the definitions of functions and subroutines. The kernel package contains the pre-compiled kernel binaries (and all the stuff that let your OS work properly). kernel-headers are required for example when you want to build a module against the current kernel version, so that it will uses exactly the same definitions.
