Davmail, Thunderbird, GAL, LDAP Setup

I am using thunderbird and evolution on my computer at work using IMAP and have been trying to configure both of the clients to access the global address book from the companies exchange 5.5 mail server. I read this but cannot get any results when I search for a name.

http://tech.ivkin.net/wiki/Linux_and..._book_and_mail

How can I obtain the information that I need from the Exchange 5.5 server to setup my GAL on thunderbird or evolution. What can I run to get this information?

DN=
OU=
CN=
O=

??

I was able to figure how to get it to work but would still like to know how to query an Exchange IMAP server for the settings. This is what I did to get it to work:

I configured my thunderbird with the internal IMAP settings:

Incoming:
IMAP:143
account_name:theman
server_name:<ip-address>
security settings:STARTTLS
Auth_Method:NTLM
Outgoing:
server_name:<ip-address>
port:587
Auth_Method:NTLM

For the GAL or Global Address Book, I setup an LDAP connection for the GAL:

using DavMail and only the LDAP checked:

Local LDAP:1389
IMAP auto Expunge:checked
Enable EWS:checked
nothing else

and in Thunderbird I created an AddressBook:

Name:GAL
hostname:localhost
BaseDNu=people
port:1389
BindDN:<username>

and BAM all worked well. I used this website listed above as a reference so good luck:

acid_keypie, the man,

Its like pulling teeth at my job. It would have taken a month to get the awnser so I took upon myself. I had to connect externally because finding the internal settings to the IMAP server like the DN,CN,O and all of that would have taken me longer or for a better lack of words, didnt know how to query for that information. What is the trick for querying the internal IMAP server for these settings so I dont have to use DavMail and connect using https://corporation.com/owa to get my Global Address Book? Also if you could give a pointer on setting up CalDEV so I can see the companies Calender.

Cheers

Hello metallica1973,

where did you enter these settings?
Did you get a complette contact list or just syntax completion in the mailto: Input field?
do you maybe have a hint what these settings could be for outlook.com (MS Online Exchange for our institution)?

Thank you in advance.

aldebarab,

I was able to pull some information from our Microsoft Exchange OWA settings which you should be able to find under ? --> about. From there I was able to find out:

cn
ou
o
servername
type of encryption
port# and etc.

Once I had this information in hand I went into Thunderbird and or Evolution and simply added the settings. I have attached a screenshot. I hope this helps
