Cyrus SASL Howto

I have configured SASL with sendmail for SMTP AUTH. Right now, SASL is using /etc/passwd for checking the credentials. I would like to know:

1. is it possible to use an external POP Server (I have another full fledged server running POP3 and SMTP Service) instead of the /etc/passwd file for authentication?

Maybe you could look @ using an LDAP directory for
authentication/authorization for both mail servers.

sendmail with LDAP, TLS and AUTH
