cron does not send mail

Hi Community,

I have the simpliest cron job:
* * * * * date

- Job is executed (checked in syslog, created outfile etc.)
- sendmail works
- PATH/MAILTO is ok
- No difference between /etc/crontab, /etc/cron.d/job or crontab -e

An at job works and sends me an email:
# echo date | at now+1min

I've found many similiar threads, but no suggestion helped. Do you have any ideas how to debug or analyze?

Server is a ReadyNAS with cron 3.0pl1-124.netgear1. Maybe this is the problem?

Indeed:
3.0pl1-124:
#define MAILCMD _PATH_SENDMAIL
3.0pl1-124.netgear1:
#define MAILCMD "/bin/true"

Cheers,
b.
