Exclamation Creating squid caches Acess Denied

Hello, I've just downloaded and compiled the latest stable version of squid, all went well compiled and installed successfully however when trying to generate the cache I get the following error message

root@binarybaby:~# squid -f /etc/squid/squid.conf -z
2007/01/11 18:09:52| Creating Swap Directories
FATAL: Failed to make swap directory /usr/local/squid/var/cache: (13) Permission denied
Squid Cache (Version 2.6.STABLE6-20070111): Terminated abnormally.
CPU Usage: 0.000 seconds = 0.000 user + 0.000 sys
Maximum Resident Size: 0 KB
Page faults with physical i/o: 6

Would anybody be able to help me with this problem?
Any help is much appreciated

thanx

From memory, the /usr/local/squid and /var/log/squid directories (and their sub-directories) should be chown'ed to whoever the user is that Squid runs as. Had you already done that?

It looks a bit like they may need to be created and then chown'ed gilead

Yeah, I'd say you're right billymayday. binary1011100 - I couldn't remember if the install created them, but it doesn't - there's some info at http://wiki.squid-cache.org/SquidFaq...28c21ab7cba183
