If you just want a remotte terminal through ssl, make sure that teh ssl server in running (it usually is by default), and connect with a suitable client. linux will have one installed by default, and you simply type

ssh user@target.machine

(target.machine can be a name or IP)

If connecting from Windows, download Putty (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/) and follow the instructions

I don't use remote desktops much, but this works on CentOS for example - http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/VNC-Server

Well i have the following problem:

I been able install the drivers and the the wileless device is working properly using Rutilt.
(i am using Ralink drivers from serialmonkey)

However in OpenSUSE 11.0
Yast->Network devices -> Network Settings

The card is still recognized as DWL-G510 wireless card rev B but systeminfo recognizes it as DWL-G510 wireless card rev C. But both are not correct. I am also not able to use NetworkManager to handle connections.... it simply does not detect any networks...... why does this happen?? Please help

Currently it is required to bring up the device manually with
Code:
ifconfig wlan0 up
after every boot and then connect to the wifi network manually using Rutit.....is it possible to bring up the device and connect to network automatically at boot??

Does wireless devices or wireless connection go down when we logout??

Please tell me if there is a command that will display the state of a device ie whether it is activated or deactivated....

I ll go through the links you posted.... thanks a lot!!

If it doesn't come up normally, why don't you just add that command to the end of /etc/rc.local?

Try /etc/rc.d/rc.local the.

Failing that

# find /etc -type f -name 'rc.local'

Ok i have finally setup samba.... i can now access my files from windows....

How do i mount the samba file share on a linux machine on the network??

Can only the users of the system be added as a samba user??

I used Yast to setup the samba server, maybe thats why the smb.conf seems incomplete..... is it ok if i replace it with a usual one from the net, ofcourse retaining the required settings?? Or is there another way??
