content not showing up on apache

hi this is probably a noob issue but i am brand new to linux. i have set up an apache server on fedora 10. here is the tutorial i used to install-
http://hacktux.com/fedora/apache
i finished that and got it running and was able to type in my servers ip address and saw the welcome page. on that page it said to add content to
/var/www/html so i built a small test page with just a little text in kompozer on a windows machine then sent it over to my linux box and put it in the directory /var/www/html like the page said but i still get the welcome page.
any help is greatly appreciated.
thanks,
kevin

What was the filename for the page you created?

The default page you keep seeing is the "index" page and is probably called "index.html".

In order to see the file you created, you need to go to http://your-server/your-page-you-created.html

You can always rename the page you created to "index.html" and you won't see the default page anymore but your own.

Hope that helps.

You may also want to have a look at your error_log and access_log files to see what shows up.

I would also go to /etc/httpd/conf.d/welcome.conf and comment out all lines there (as the instructions in that file say). Then reload httpd.

It can be hard to troubleshoot when the welcome page is in place...
