Connecting to my server using SSH (Newbie)

Hi

I have a simple home server which I use to shre photos etc with my family when I'm away. I'd like to be able to access my server through openSSH.

What username and password do I use? The same I use to login into my linux machine which is running the server?

From a few threads I read about using SSH they mention that login in the form <user>@<host>

I'm just a bit confused with what login and host to use. At home when I'm using my server I just type http://localhost. What user do I use? My general Linux user?

Thanks

You would use whatever username you wish to connect to the server as. When you are accessing it over HTTP to view pictures, you aren't actually authenticating or acting as any particular user, but when you want to interactively log into the system you need to have a valid username and password from that system.

Thanks. But I still don't get it how to set up users and passwords for them. Is this done trough SSH or do I have to set them up in my Apache server?
