Not sure why you would need sendmail if you already have a smtp server...

On Debian i can use the mailx command from the heirloom-mailx package to send mails per script. Maybe there is a package for you distribution that does the same.

Hi zhjim,

Thanks for your reply.
I have an existing mail server. Is it possible to use that mail server to send email using mailx command.

If the smtp server is local you should be able to use any local mail user client. If its on a remote server you need to use some options for mailx. Namely the server you want to send over and some credentials.

You are a 'newbie'...who has been here for SIX YEARS, and configured LDAP servers and SAN attachments?? Hardly seems accurate.

After six years, you should already be familiar with the LQ Rules and the "Question Guidelines" link in my posting signature. There are THOUSANDS of very easily-found guides on configuring sendmail and mailx to use an existing mail server. Just two:

http://www.systutorials.com/5167/sen...internal-smtp/
http://linux.die.net/man/1/mailx

...found with a VERY brief Google search.
