Hello,
Mostly a newbie, but have used Puppy v3 on desktops and when the opportunity presented itself to purchase a surplus Compaq 4030, I grabbed it. I've managed to verify that it is operational with MS. However, lacking any software or manuals, it is my hope that someone in the forum might be able to suggest a distro they know would have support for the 18-drv SCSI bay without any recompiling.
Thank you for any help in advance

Compaq 4030 are we talking about what i think we are...... Compaq Proliant 6000 series?? If we are, then are you wanting to pay the power bill of a small nation? I remember those things sucking a lot of power worked out to be like $25 a week just to run that server itself. And that was at mid'90's prices. But if you are just using it to play about with then any kernel should be fine but i would recommend a 2.4 kernel for such old hardware and you'll need to do text only install.
BTW if you haven't tried to start it yet. get ear muffs first. damn loud from memory.
Hi,
Thank you all for the Info, I,ll carefully review those sites.
Madman, you are remembering well, this thing is a jewel, all the trick "James Bond" like panel interlocks, huge double "Hot swap" power supplies.
Unfortunately, maybe it is excessive for a home server (I'll just turn it on when the Bud's come over), for as an old "Hot Rodder", Living by "More's Law" (If More's better, Too much is just Right!) it certainly is that!! More Cubic inches and Boost == More drives
However if I can get it to operate, on a Linux distro it would be a giant jump of my Linux education in general.
Thank you for the kernel version number.
