Checking mail

Hello!

My question is that can I set up checking mail after logging by OS to check not from /var/mail/user but from ~/Maildir?

Next question is how to disable checking mail after logging?

Once it was "CheckMail" option in SSH. My system is Debian 5.

Yes you can, a well worn out phrase at this stage.

procmail does it. you can configure your mailer to throw mail at procmail and have the rules there

But it's not what I want. I ask about mechanism of checking. Or maybe this is included directly in kernel? Because I don't want to install procmail. My mailing system works good.
