change domain name of mails

I have a situation where when I send emails from my machine it goes as root@machinename

I read this https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...domain-484792/

and I changed it to
Djmydomain.com

and it worked for a while. But now it is again reverted to root@machinename.com

Any ideas on what could have gone wrong ?

Rgds

Ukesh.

You edited the sendmail.cf and you should edit the sendmail.mc file instead and then run make before you restart sendmail to see the changes activated.

I am not sure I understood that.
That parameter is only there in the sendmail.cf file.
So where do I edit the sendmail.mc file , I mean where should I give my domain name ?
in the local domain paramter ?

The mc file should be in /etc/mail
