change device ownership ?

Hello,

How do I change device ownership that will stay in effect after a re-boot?

I have RHAS 4 installed on a Dell 1950. We are trying to install Sybase. Sybase wants to use raw partitions and needs to own the partition. If I do a "chown sybase /dev/sdb1" it works, but after a re-boot the ownership changes back to root.

Under SGI there is an /etc/ioperms file where I can enter the raw device name and it will change ownership to sybase on boot up.

Is there such a file on Linux?

Thank you

You might put this line in the start up script, somewhere in rc.local or rc.sysinit, or it might be different in your distribution.
