I am currently involved in setting up an openldap server on a CentOS platform. I am having some issues with getting it set up to the point that I can remotely manage the server via phpldapadmin in a web browser. I am running into an issue when starting the slapd daemon. Please see the output below to better understand.
[root@zimbra ~]# service ldap start
Checking configuration files for slapd: bdb_db_open: DB_CONFIG for suffix dc=home,dc=local has changed.
Performing database recovery to activate new settings.
bdb_db_open: Recovery skipped in read-only mode. Run manaul recovery if errors are encountered.
config file testing succeeded
[OK]
Starting slapd: [Failed]
[root@zimbra ~]#
Unfortunately niether of the suggestions above worked. I am unsure at this point if I should just start from a fresh install. The recovery was successful and I did re-chown the DB_CONFIG to ldap:ldap but was still unsuccessful in getting the service to start. Is a reboot possibly required to start the service after)?
Unfortunately I needed to get this email server up and going sooner than later. This caused me to end my troubleshooting in the matter and start with a fresh install of the CentOS operating system. I appreciate your comments and help in the ordeal and will definitely keep them in mind the next time. I plan to return to this issue and resolve it as I am curious as to what will fix it if it returns. Thanks again!
