Hello guys, I come from a Fedora background and decided to install Cent 0S in a box at my office, I opted for the Cent 0S 4.4 server version since it seemed as a good option. After installing it in my box, I'm having 2 issues with it:
1- I custom installed and added mysql, but guess what, it is no where to be found, and "service mysql status" generates an unrecognized service notice.
2- I cannot use yum, been having problems with the Base URL not being found, even as I try to use wget on x page I get: "Temporary failure in name resolution". As I tried to fix the issue I realized there is no /etc/resolv.conf.
What is wrong? am I doing something wrong? or is it Cent OS?
Distribution: Mac OS X Leopard 10.6.2, Windows 2003 Server/Vista/7/XP/2000/NT/98, Ubuntux64, CentOS4.8/5.4

YOu must be doing something wrong because I am using CentOS 4.4 and do not have these problems. I don't use MySQL so I can't speak on that part, but I do have a /etc/resolv.conf file
So, create yourself a resolv.conf file and then do a locate mysql to find your mysql install. Did you happen to install by source or RPM? Probably best to install by RPM as it will create the init scripts for you.
If you did install by rpm, search the rpm database.
Thank you for your replies guys. I installed mysql from the cd as part of the original install. Note that this is an install that uses a single cd (for servers). Anyhow my guess is that the file was corrupted as I downloaded it (I didn't do a md5sum, just a media check). I decided to go with a full install of Cent OS 5 (since I don't know what else could be wrong with this install). Again I really appreciate your input. Many thanks.
UPDATE: I finally got it to work. The issue at hand was an incompatibility of the volume groups. I had previously installed Fedora Core 6 which used LVM1. CentOS uses LVM2, so I had to wipe my disk clean using knoppix and zeroing the hd by means of #dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda.
