CENT OS help
 

i have decided to go for cent OS ...

regarding CENT OS ..

is this same as red hat Linux ?
is it good for server side ?
is CENTOS totally free version of Linux ?
can i easily connect remotely or will there be any complications ?

It's not exactly the same, otherwise they'd probably just... use the same name. :) They're very similar though. RedHat has more support and corporate-friendly options, generally, but those also come with a cost.

CentOS can be great for a server. Lots of big web companies use it to run high-availability environments.

Yeah, CentOS is free. You can download it and install as soon as you're ready.

I'm not sure what you mean by connect remotely.

In my opinion, yes there are better alternatives. Dont get me wrong though, centOS is very stable and its basically the same as Red Hat.... Well its the closest thing to Red Hat anyways.

Although never used centOS myself, friends who use it have never had a complaint.

What are you going to do with the server ? ......

My server distribution list would look like this -
1. Slackware
2. Debian
3. BSD
4. Gentoo.
5. centOS

** dont want to start a flame-war which usually happens with distributions questions on LQ but its just my opinion based on experience.
