Long time lurker.
System: CentOS 5.7
Printer: Canon iR-ADV C5035 (one of those spaceship jobs that does everything but make coffee or adjust the drapes)
Whenever the system is booted or service cups [ start | restart ], this Canon is in the disabled state. The cupsenable command or any of the gui tools enable the printer and all is good.
Why is this disabled? Is there a control bit we may twiddle somewhere such that the printer comes up enabled?

Canon CUPS
Thank you for your response, John.
The Canon is connected via network and the scanner is not configured to the CentOS system at all. The "spaceship" has all manner of computer in and of itself for scanning and all the other.
Your comments about Canon support for "non-Windows" is true enough. Just wondering if there was something buried in the .ppd file or some such that I could adjust.
I know about the v5.7 being behind. This is current compared to most of the servers I support. Upgrades invariably break other things so we tend to bury these application servers behind hefty firewalls and let them run.

The printer has been configured for a long time; before I came to the company. We configure printers via the System / Administration / Printing utility from the graphical user interface (yeah, I know - a GUI on a server... Sigh). Prints fine, just disabled on startup.
The xsane programs are installed on the server but do not appear to be configured. There would be no occasion to run the scanner from the server as there are plenty of desktop systems for that kind of thing.
No issue about root and installing printers. BT&DT with a drawer full of shirts...
You have read through the boot log and the cups log for any errors
the printer should be listed someplace in it
/var/log/boot.log
/var/log/massages
/var/log/cups/error.log
