Cannot Set Samba Root Password
Hi,
I installed Fedora 10 Friday. I installed it on my home server / router. This machine acts as the samba logon domain server. I need to set the samba root password to allow me to have the other Win XP machines join the domain. I have not had issues with this before, simply typing
smb -a
did the trick.
Now I get
Unable to modify TDB passwd: NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL!
Failed to add entry for user root.
Failed to modify password entry for user root
I am doing this via su as logon as root is now disabled.
Machines can browse the samba network and get access by username password for that user but if I am to have machines added to the domain and a central logon server I will need the smb root user.
I have used the default smb.conf altered for my network address and server shares and bits.
Any pointers would be appreciated. I'm guessing it's a Fedora 10 security matter.
Regards
Rob
