Can I upgrade the very old server?

Hi all,
I got an old server, it's a webserver and I need to upgrade it.
There is a Redhat9 server within kernel version 2.4.20-8smp, apache httpd-2.0.48-2, php-4.3.4-2, mysql-3.23.58-1.9 and various so old packages.
Now I already install yum for upgrade via internet because I afraid if I do it by myself, and I would like to know does it will fail after upgraded because it is a pretty old.

Thanks for every answer.

Hi.

I would definately recommend backing up your system, reinstalling it with a current linux installation, and then restoring your files.

You can't really upgrade; you'll need to back up your data and do a complete reinstall. RH9 was the last of the line. If you like the Red Hat way of doing things, I strongly suggest you install the most recent version of CentOS, which is a rebranded Red Hat Enterprise Linux minus the RH trademarks.

Good luck. Just remember to backup up our system properly, so that you don't loose any data. I always keep backups at least two different places while doing this sort of thing, just in case one of the backups fail.
