Question Can't get Dovecot to start (error shown in the post)

I've just installed a new Ubuntu server and am having problems getting Dovecot to run - (Postfix is running fine)

When I run 'start dovecot' I get "process 9582"
if I run it again, the process increases "9596" "9603" etc etc

When I run 'restart dovecot', I get "restart: Unknown instance:"

Here's the mail.err log readout:
Code:
Jan 31 13:59:29 li393-36 dovecot: lda(root): Error: chdir(/root/) failed: Permission denied (euid=65534(nobody) egid=65534(nogroup) missing +x perm: /root, euid is not dir owner)
Jan 31 13:59:29 li393-36 dovecot: lda(root): Error: chdir(/root) failed: Permission denied
Jan 31 13:59:29 li393-36 dovecot: lda(root): Error: user root: Initialization failed: Initializing mail storage from mail_location setting failed: stat(/root/Maildir) failed: Permission denied (euid=65534(nobody) egid=65534(nogroup) missing +x perm: /root, euid is not dir owner)
Jan 31 13:59:29 li393-36 dovecot: lda(root): Fatal: Invalid user settings. Refer to server log for more information.
Would appreciate any help,
Thanks,
Nick....

create an alias entry for root as it seems you are trying to send mail to root for which dovecot doesnot has default permission

Thanks for the comeback...

I only have root right now - wanted to get Postfix/Dovecot working first..

Can't see what you are trying to show me on the Ubuntu page of your link...

CYP attach your config as plain text file? Probably more efficient.
