Can't Authenticate to squid proxy from XP machine

I am having to setup a proxy for the Office its been a while so please bare with me. I hope Maybe I am missing some thing easy :-)

I have setup and Installed squid but when I try and setup a windows xp SP2 FF3 user I am having problems Authenticating to the proxy. A user name and password box is displayed but the user is not Authenticated and the login pops up again. I am sure I am entering the correct user name and password.

Quote:
root@office:/etc/squid3# htpasswd /etc/squid3/squid_passwd NSWUSR
Re-type new password:

Have you checked Squid's access.log (cache.log and store.log might have info, but not as likely) for more info? I'm suspicious of an upper case username, but can't find any docs here to support that (you could also try qldusr since we're probably going to win State of Origin in a few months time )?

Sorry that's not more useful...

I'm not sure, did you mean this (from the Squid docs)?
Code:
Option Name:	htcp_port
Replaces:
Requires:	--enable-htcp
Default Value:	htcp_port 0
Suggested Config:

#htcp_port 4827

	The port number where Squid sends and receives HTCP queries to
	and from neighbor caches. To turn it on you want to set it to
	4827. By default it is set to "0" (disabled).

Hi Sorry this is the HTTP host header environment variable REMOTE_PORT

Quote:
<?php
echo $_SERVER['REMOTE_PORT'];
?>
