building a Linux cluster question

I work in the technology department of a local school. I do a range of tasks including network and server management, computer repair, as well as working with av systems.

I have been able start working with some video camera and audio equipment.

One thing I have been trying to design is a cluster based render farm. I am hopefull that it would be possible build a cluster that I could boot a computer lab and remote desktop to cut my render time that takes a good part of a day now to take much shorter time.

If anyone has done anything like this I would be glad where how it worked out.

Thanks in advance

Start by researching renderers, see if the ones you want to use can work in a compute cluster and then see what their recommendations are.

This is one of the cases where you'll need to identify your end goal and work back from there.

My vision

I am probably on the wrong track but what I am hoping to do here is a cluster of computers (old CPUs of Refurb servers) that I can put into a server closet we have in the school where I can remote into on a smaller computer or laptop to capture the video and render to DVD. The main reason I am looking to remote is because I have several offices that I plan to use this in as well as demo for the IT class. I know OpenSUSe as it is my main computer so I am hoping to use that for the distro or similar.

I have tried searching the web for info and everything seems quite old and has a lot of dead links for download.

Am I totally off the mark with my goal?
