bad wget

hello all,

I'm new to this forum as well as semi-new to linux systems. A friend of mine has asked me to help them fix a problem with a bad copy of wget on their dedicated server. In my attempt to change the version of wget (on a Fedora Core 6) I get the following errors that libcrypto.so.5 & libssl.so.5 are missing.

I'm in need of help of someone to tell me where to find these libraries and how to properly install them please.

I'm really at a loss and quite frustrated at this point of other places not wanting to help without the almight dollar talking. So I'm praying theres some gentle soul here willing to take pity on me and walk me through fixing this problem.

Thank you so much!

As root, all you need to do is:

yum remove wget
yum install wget

I did that and again, here is what I got.

You have a buggy version of wget (wget-1.10.2-8.fc6.1). Before proceeding with installation/upgrade, please see the following page for instructions on how to fix:
I did get wget.i386 0:1.10.2-7 installed last night, which allowed me to install the other software that I was trying to install, but for some reason when I'd refresh, it was still saying that I had the 1.10.2-8 installed. So, i'm at a loss right now.

If you manually installed from source, I suggest you uninstall to clean the files. Source tar file installs bypass the rpm database and should not be done for system software by inexperienced users.

If you can't get yum to function, then you revert to the lower level tool, rpm:

Code:
rpm -e wget
rpm -ivh http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/updates/6/i386/wget-1.10.2-8.fc6.1.i386.rpm
