Hi,

Regarding your backups, there is really no "software suite" required to perform a backup on Linux.

Familiarizing yourself with rsync will be all you need for making back ups of your data (files).
mysqldump can be used for making back ups of any mysql databases you may have.

You could also make a complete image of your disk using the dd command.

Don't forget to read man pages and not try things for the first time on production machines.

Hi,

First, those software vendors do not make linux-compatible software.

Second, rsync can be used to backup to and from any local or network location.

See an example for rsync:

http://www.thegeekstuff.com/2010/09/...mand-examples/

Once you get the hang of it you can set the backups torun automatically with a cron job:

I hope you find your way!

bacula can do the job handily, but so can a carefully crafted shell script (mysqldump+tar+rsync) writing to a NFS export or mounted volume somewhere.

Windows boxes are an interesting breed. I usually tend to stay well away from managing MSSQL Server 'dumps' because bacula and I had an issue on something that I believe was tied to "Volume Shadow Copy" service (it is/was disabled on targets for me and I didn't want/could not/wasn't advisable/don't mess with a working host) and I didn't need to turn it on.

So I chose to force the Windows System MSSQL admin to write his own damn dump script, (mostly provided by us) to a volume that VSS didn't need and bacula could grab that easily.

Acronis costs money, but they have a Linux solution
and netbackup has Linux listed as requirements here...

If you are looking for a GUI to do backups, you will not find it with bacula proper.

Good luck.

We use Zmanda (works great of Linux distro's), it is like 'amanda' with a front end graphical interface (through a web-browser).

They do have mysql agent as well, I have another process to dump the database(s) - mysql. I have used Zmanda now for 4 years, it is really nice and being the fact it runs on your Linux server makes it even better.

To add to the Zmanda info, it does also have the ability to backup MSWin as well.
Have a read of this http://www.zmanda.com/quick-backup-setup.html
