Hello and Welcome to LinuxQuestions,

It all depends on what you want to backup. Do you want to backup whole systems or just user files and configurations? Need to backup what packages are installed and so on?

Depending on your needs, for files you can go with the solution offered by quanta, or write your own script to copy files. You'll need samba software (smbclient) to connect to Windows shares.

If you want to make professional backups then go with a dedicated solution like Amanda or Bacula. There are lots of backup solutions available, just do a Google Search and you'll be amazed.

Have fun with Linux.

Kind regards,

Eric

Or you could go to "the book" on the topic, which is The O'Reilly book "Backup and Recovery" by W. Curtis Preston and its companion web site, Backup Central.

You can also find a variety of links on various backup tools and topics at http://www.linuxquestions.org/bookmarks/tags/backup.

Of course, googling "linux backup software" will get you some pretty good links on the first page as well.

And then you can follow up here if you have questions on some particular solution that interests you.
