hello all. first post here, so bear with me.

I am setting up a web, dns, and ftp server using ubuntu server 10.04lts. i am using webmin to administrate it. when i try to start apache using webmin, i get this error:

Failed to start apache :
* Starting web server apache2
apache2: Syntax error on line 236 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Could not open configuration file /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default: No such file or directory
...fail!

what am i doing wrong or what can i fix here?

when i log into my server and go the the directory where it says it can't find that file and I list the files i can see it there. it is listed in red text.

whats does this all mean?

thanks for that. i got a few errors about site defaults not existing, but also got one about a dangling symlink. i deleted it and apache started right up. must have just been a bug in web min that didn't catch that.

This is what a2ensite is supposed to do. It creates the symlinks to sites-enabled.
Could be a permissions issue with webmin.
Anyway, you can use the Thread Tools and mark this thread as solved
