I chmoded 777 every file that mentioned "Permission denied" in the strace output. I no longer have any permission denied errors anywhere but it still fails to start.

The following two lines are the only ones that differ substantially from a working system I have here.

Does your server run as apache? try "id apache" and see if it looks ok and double check /etc/passwd & group

Well of all the damn things...


My self-signed certificate expired last week and so I made a new one from a command console and installed it into ISPConfig panel. Everything seemed fine until today.

I looked at the strace again and noticed these lines:

I deleted the certificate I installed from the ISPConfig panel and it starting running again! It coughed up a new self-signed certificate too on the https connection though which is a bit disconcerting but at least the damn server is up again.
