Apache user access?

What's the proper way to let apache have read/write access to user created files? Adding apache to the user's group, then 0770 the files?

Yes, you can give owernership to a specific path or directory to a user/group. You can also check out owner, users, and group sticky bit.

It also depend on what sort of file it is as well, if possible, set the permissions to 0660. Unless you really need to execute a file rather than read/write to it.
