Anyone help internet access issue

Hi

I am running slackware 3.1 as proxy server on server 2008 (virtual machine), the network was working well and suddenly internet connection went down , now the solution that i have found is to by pass the proxy on each of my network client. If I connect any of my LAN client through proxy the connection gets established and proxy server allocate IP address from it poll. But internet is not working through in this way.

Any Suggestions?

Thanks'

Hello Optional, welcome to LQ,

you probably mean Slackware-13.1??? Could you please provide more information about your setup?
What works and what doesn't work? Does the Slackware-server have a connection to the internet? what about the Windows-server? if I've understand your post correctly you run the Slackware-proxy as a virtual guest on a Windows-server 2008, is this true? What about the Windows-server's connection to the internet. Which of the computers is the DHCP- and which is the DNS-server?

thank for yoyr reply

I am really screwed up and i am new in linux world. i am using slacware 3.1. i have internet connection on linux is good... linux is on hyper V manager(virtual machine) on server 2008 .this is basically my proxy and firewall as,

the windows server 2008 is my DNS . so DHCP is disable on server 2008...

all IP pool is coming from Proxy server..... So reallocation of ip to client is going well, but internet is not working on my client computer , not even on server 2008, my network has around 40 computer,,, now to get access to internet i have to by pass the proxy server.

cheers

Hello Optional,

do the client-computers have the proper settings to use the proxy-server? Which operatingsystem do the clients have?

And could you please post the output of
Code:

uname -a
from the Slackware-server?

clients are on different OS, most are on XP, few windows 7...basically LINUX has been configured as DHCP as well so clients don't really need proper settings , clients get IP from squid proxy automatically....

by the way what is uname -a?

In the terminal window (command line) type 'uname -a' (without quotes) and post the output.

Linux proxy2 2.6.27.7-smp #2 SMP Thu Nov 20 22:32:43 CST 2008 i686 Intel (R) Xeon (R) cpu E5520 @ 2.27Ghz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

Well, then it is at least clear that you don't have Slackware-3.1 on the server but 13.1.

I will report this thread to the Moderators, I think it is a theme for the "Server" forums.

How come 13.1? Going by the kernel it'd seem it's Slackware 12.2. Slackware 13.1 came with 2.6.33.4

Glad we've finally established what you're running:). Markus has reported the thread to be moved to a more relevant section of LQ. Sorry, proxy servers are not my strongest area so I'm afraid I can't help here. Hopefully, you'll get a reply soon.

Well, I only wanted to verify that it cannot be Slackware-3.1 as the OP stated at first. Therefore I asked for the uname output. But you're right, 13.1 came with a more recent kernel, but I was sitting in front of a Windows-computer when I wrote the post ;).
