After upgrading a Debian test machine from Lenny to Squeeze, MySQL will no longer start.
When running
/etc/init.d/mysql start, it responds that starting MySQL failed.
The following appears in the syslog:
Code:
Oct 2 08:29:20 /etc/init.d/mysql[14413]: 0 processes alive and '/usr/bin/mysqladmin --defaults-file=/etc/mysql/debian.cnf ping' resulted in
Oct 2 08:29:20 /etc/init.d/mysql[14413]: #007/usr/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
Oct 2 08:29:20 /etc/init.d/mysql[14413]: error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)'
Oct 2 08:29:20 /etc/init.d/mysql[14413]: Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' exists!
Any help would be greatly appreciated - thanks!
update:
I just tried running "/usr/sbin/mysqld" from the command line, and received the following:
