Adding print driver to CUPS/Samba from Windows - printer doesn't display

Hi all,

Probably an easy question, but when I add a printer through the CUPS UI (http://server:631), everything goes smooth.

My next step is to connect to \\server from my windows workstation, type in credentials (auth is successful) and it bring up the shares, but the printer I just added does not show up!

I have noticed that if I wait several minutes it will show up, but if I want it to show up immediately, I have to restart samba.

Is this the only way to get it to show up immediately? Why if I wait does it seemingly always show up?

Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Set up wins support=yes. That will speed things up.

Have a look at this thread ->http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d-wins-608694/

This is the way micro$ designed it. A win only network is the same without a wins server.

thanks for the reply...actually, it turned out to be stidly simple

cupsd.conf

browsing Off

to

browsing On

this made it so that when I added a printer queue in the CUPS UI, it displayed immediately in NN.
