about sendmail -mailer daemon.

My sendmail is already functional which means I can send mail using the port 25. But.. There is one question, when we are sending false-constructed mail (e.g wrong recipient address, wrong domain names) through this server, why is the mailer-daemon being held in the system /var/mail/root and not delivered back to the sender?

Is there any mis-configuration that I don't know?

Some types of delivery errors can be determined directly like the receiving MTA replying "won't accept, mailbox full". If it's an error where no remote MTA can be contacted and give a return code that is an error the message will be delivered back to the sender after the timeout period passed. For values see 'grep 'O Time' sendmail.cf' .
