I need some suggestion and hope you will be atleast jot few words in response.I want to setup File Server OS and that too with the following essentialities:
1. An compact OS size < 100MB meant for only File Server
2. It should be stable
3. 500 GB data transfer
4. Should support Samba
5. Should support Apache
7. Could be Portable in USB Pen Drive
8. Security ( Optional )

Any Suggestion???

Proftpd. Install it on whatever Linux you've got now. Almost 6 years of running now and worse thing that happened is something/someone tries to login as "Administrator" all the time. Vsftp is OK, but you can count its features on one hand (and you maybe don't need the fingers).

I vote for proftpd too. Thats a damn good joke jayjwa, though I don't have much experience with vsftp.

here is one opinion http://linuxfromscratch.org/pipermai...st/024279.html

optimally. It is up to you to use and find out. Try and stay away from any ftpd's that haven't been around too long and aren't directly included in a distribution. They could be buggy . pro, vs, wu and pure are the top in my book with vs nestled on the throne
