554 5.4.6 Too many hops

I configured a postfix smtp relay host on SLES 10 SP2. I am also running logwatch for analyzing system logs. I have configured logwatch to send mail to the local root account. In aliases I have added my email address so anything sent to root will be forwarded to me. Now I am getting a Mail Deliver Subsystem return on the logwatch email sent. The error is: 554 5.4.6 Too many hops 28 (25 max). Any idea what would cause this or where I should look. I verified that my email address is correct in the aliases.

Hi.

Sounds like you've got a forwarding loop somewhere. Make sure you've not set an alias which points towards an alias and back again or somesuch.

Thank you for your help. We were able to add a virtual alias to postfix which resolved the issue.
